Marcus Martins has a PhD in Philology and Portuguese Language from the University of São Paulo (2017), granted on the thesis "Tonal targets: phonological-phonetic units of intonation", under the mentorship of Prof. Waldemar Ferreira Netto. He also has a masters (2013), granted by the same institution, mentored by Prof. Beatriz Raposo de Medeiros and currently is involved in a post-doctorate at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. His research is in the area of phonetics and phonology, specifically on the subject of the perception and production of prosody, and has put time and effort into projects aimed at the automatic processing of intonation, the shaping of perception and emotionally-charged speech. Marcus also collaborates with the ExProsodia project (USP) and with the Laboratory of Empirical Language Studies (UFMG). In his current research project, he aims to develop a protocol to analyse the speech prosody of people with schizophrenia.
